The Obama administration has accused the agents of the Iranian government Tuesday of plotting to assassinate the Saudi ambassador to the United States and immediately used the foiled plan to ratchet up sanctions and recruit international allies to try to further isolate Tehran.
Two men, including a member of the foreign equity unit of Iran's special known as the Quds Force, New York were charged in federal court of conspiring to kill the Saudi diplomat Adel Al-Jubeir. Justice Department officials said the men tried to hire a suspected member of a Mexican drug cartel to carry out the assassination in a bomb attack, while Al-Jubeir was a dinner at your favorite restaurant.
