Bio: Pilarsito aka Jay Michael No rapper worth his salt lacks the footwork necessary to keep their balance in the game. Stick and move, stick and move…maneuverability becomes power, as those in the best position to score make it a habit worth repeating.

Relentless as boxing champion Julio Cesar Chavez, Pilarsito is that rapper always in the right place about town, to catch the drunken action of Austin’s 6th Street on camera, then drop a comical freestyle about it. Jay Michael on the spot, Pilarsito saddles right up to the bar, not for a drink but for his next opportunity to strike with a microphone.

Where South Park Mexican, Chingo Bling, Cheech Marin, and Kid Frost go for kicks…if one could even imagine such a ridiculously dusty place. Right up the street from where Austin or even Pilarsito’s childhood home Robstown, Corpus Christi become just like Compton. Attached to a flagpole outside Austin’s Nelson Field, punching with every gust of forethought…there’s Pilarsito declaring his hip-hop heritage, one rough rhyme at a time.

Many know Pilarsito from his days at Reagan High School where he teamed with members of New Generation of Kings as specialists in each the fields of rap, film and spoken word poetry. Many others know him through a later affiliation with fellow Austin rapper Lil Sicc as Capitol Punishment Records, resulting in Pilarsito’s debut solo mixtape Cuz Y’all Tired of Da Same Shit, released early 2008.

Every bit as willing to critique the status quo with either a side-splitting wise crack or a more serious military-minded barrage, Pilarsito engages his listeners with a relaxed Texican accent that lulls you right into automatically catching his ever-calculated gist. On his song “Engagement Party” for instance, Pilarsito makes his pledges to hip-hop as breezy as anyone could ever hope to achieve within a barrio of sure-to-be broken dreams. Pilarsito fully realizes that his playful stranglehold on hip-hop’s fleeting heart won’t last forever, but he has every intention of getting his licks in while he still has the chance.

Whether it be through cameos on albums by Madd P and Lil Sicc, or a full length collaboration with Loudmouf titled While You Were Sleeping, Pilarsito jabs with a tenacity that commands respect at the same time it requires he hit you again and again with his scrappy wordplay. As both a rapper and a hustler, Pilarsito anticipates the release of his debut solo album, titled The Nightlife.
